about me

My name is Mark. I am an award-winning fine art and wedding/portrait photographer from Somerset where I live with my wife, Sarah. I’m a keen naturalist and hillwalker and at the age of eighteen, influenced by the nature photography of Eliot Porter, I purchased a large format plate camera and proceeded to teach myself photography. I have now been operating as a professional for around thirty years, and I am very experienced in both film and digital output. Between 1996 and 2014, I operated my portrait studio in Bath. My work during this time garnered fourteen industry-recognized distinctions across my photography and darkroom printing, including Fujifilm National Portrait Photographer of the Year. I am also a qualified member of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. In 2014, I closed my studio and took some time to immerse myself in historical photographic processes and personal projects. Re-invigorated by this sabbatical, I now, once again, offer commissioned portrait and wedding photography.

How I Work

Since the 90s, I have balanced reportage with posed art portraiture, along with group portraits of family and friends. I like to capture you in natural settings throughout the day, focusing on the atmosphere, and I will use locations in creative ways to make something unique to you. I’m very easygoing and friendly, and I work quickly with a low profile. To date, I have shot well over five hundred weddings, so nothing really fazes me anymore.

Before the wedding I like to sit down with you to talk over exactly how you would like me to work on the day - what proportion of reportage to art-posed you would like, and to make sure your timings are adhered to with your venue’s catering.

I have traveled all across England, Scotland, and Wales, and photographed at many wonderful venues, from the Pump rooms in Bath, Lucknam Park in Colerne, and Babington House near Frome, to name just a few. There’s a high chance that I have photographed at your coming venue before, but if I haven’t, I always undertake a full reccy before the day to ensure I get the very best from it.

I always strive to deliver the highest quality service throughout the wedding day and in the final presented images. I could go on, but I’ll let the images speak for themselves. If you like what you see please contact me using the form below or call me on 07748 131086.
